CURRENT WIN CHAINS EXTENDED: Iowa City, City High and St. Albert, Council Bluffs chalked up their 16th straight wins and Armstrong-Ringsted upped their win chain to 11-games, for the longest current victory strings in the state. Iowa City, City High defeated Waterloo West, 48-24; St. Albert dinged Glenwood, 42-7 and Armstrong-Ringsted smothered Laurens-Marathon, 67-28.
STREAK BREAKERS: Regina, Iowa City knocked off Solon, 21-15 to end the Spartans 42-game streak, the sixth longest in Iowa prep history. The Spartans last previous setback was 16-7 to Central Lyon-George-Little Rock in the 2006 2A Championship. It also ended a 29-game regular season winning streak for Solon. Harlan Community had its 15-game win streak snapped at the hands of Class 4A foe Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, 49-34. The Lynx scored 21-unanswered fourth quarter points to go 3-0. Harlan Community will now strive to keep a 49-game consecutive district win streak alive. Northeast Hamilton handed North Sentral Kossuth their first regular-season 8-player loss in 20 games with a 40-20 triumph. North Sentral Kossuth became a new 8-player program when Sentral Fenton and North Kossuth merged at the start of the 2008 season.
LOSING SKIDS END: Camanche exorcised a 38-game losing streak by defeating Bellevue, 35-19. The Indians last previous win was a 41-7 triumph over Preston-East Central, August 25, 2006. BCLUW, Conrad also returned to the victory circle last night defeating GMG, Garwin, 20-6 to halt a string of 11 defeats.
RIVALRY KING: Albia went to 2-0 with a 27-21 triumph over Chariton in the 99th meeting between the two schools. The Blue Demons last week won the 101st game in the Highway 5 Battle with Centerville, 28-18
READY OR NOT: Conference games in Class 4A and District play in most all 3A, 2A, 1A, A and 8-player districts will start in next week. Because of an un-even number of teams, in 4A, 1A and some 8-player non-district/conference games and bye weeks will occur in the remaining seven weeks.
MILESTONE WINS MISSED: Two veteran playoff coaches reached the 100-win mark last weekend and we apologize for not passing them along. Pella’s Jay McKinstrey, in his 14th season, went to 100-40 with his team’s 35-14 triumph over Newton. Xavier’s Duane Schulte moved to 100-62. Now in his 17th campaign, last night he took a 76-48 mark into competition. It is his12th season at Xavier. He coached Cedar Rapids LaSalle previously.

The IHSAA score list is generated from school calls and E-mails to the IHSAA the night of the game and media reports. It is the basis for the IHSAA Official Play-off Standings. Our score list is posted before 6:30 a.m. each Saturday and the playoff standings in each conference/district are usually updated before 9 a.m. For those tracking their own potential playoff teams, remember that qualification is on a point basis in Class 4A, determined by the opponent’s final season record. In Class 3A through 8-player qualifying is based on securing a top four finish in the district (district w-l only). Tie-breaking procedures in all classes are posted on the IHSAA website (www.iahsaa.org). In Class 3A through 8-play in district games that are overtimes regardless of the final score, the winning team receives one point and the losing team has a one-point deficit in the 13-point tie breaker.

SHOOTING BLANKS: To date, only four teams have yet to be scored upon. By class they are:

1-A: Woodward Academy (2-0) 90-0; North Cedar, Stanwood (2-0) 74-0
A: North Tama, Traer (2-0), 99-0 – the Redhawks have shutout 27 of their last 40 opponents.
BIG RETURNS: Zach Pechous returned a kickoff 95 yards in the third quarter for the go ahead TD in Regina, Iowa City’2 21-15 win over Solon. Pechous’ sprint came seconds after Solon had taken a 12-10 lead on the second of three Marshall Koehn field goals. . . Albia had two long end zone returns among its four scores in a 27-121 triumph over Chariton. Kile Overmyer and Cole Spurgin had kick-off returns of 87 and 93 yards respectively and Overmyer tacked on a 99-yard TD dash
RUSH EXPLOSION: Marion’s Colton Storla amassed 250 yards rushing and scored three times including dashes of 56 and 35 yards in a 21-7 win over Benton Community . . . Union Community’s Wes Burnside scored on runs of 40, 13 and 10 yards en route to a 191 rushing yard performance in the Knights 56-7 scorching of Independence. . . Mid-Prairie’s Brody Barthelman carried 36 times for 230 yards and five TDs in the Golden Hawks’ 36-21 triumph over Clear Creek-Amana. . .
ENDZONE MADNESS: Underwood’s Dillon Robinson had 10 carries for 208 yards and TD runs of 6, 37, 40, 41 and 53 yards all in the first half as the Eagles swamped Missouri Valley, 60-0. . . Jake Greco scored on runs of 3, 1, 11, 2 and 20 yards and rolled up 158 grounds yards in North Fayette’s 47-27 win over Oelwein. . . Walker Erskine’s five rushing TDs (all ten yards or less) and 125 yards powered Waverly-Shell Rock to a 48-3 win over Columbus Catholic, Waterloo. . . West Central, Maynard’s Marshall Lincoln found the end zone four times in a 54-6 waltz past East Central, Miles. He returned a kickoff 72 yards for a score and 4, 11 and 13 yards. Teammate Nakota Condad also had a 66-yard kick-off return. . . Logan-Magnolia’s 63-0 thrashing of Clarinda was highlighted by 8 Panthers who scored touchdowns. . . Kyle Kuhlman scored four times on runs of 51, 36, and 18 yards and hauled in a 27 yard touchdown pass from Zach Archer who also scored on two short runs. . . Jacob Fielder scored five times on rushes as Remsen-Union over powered Charter Oak-Ute, 68-7. . . .Josh Trucke rushed for four TDs and 164 yards as Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto stopped Westwood, Sloan, 38-19. . .
TANDEM ATTACK: Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln’s win over Harlan Community was keyed by a potent offensive attack. Austin Ebertowski scored four times and gained 168 yards on 22 carries while Alex Olson connected on 10 of 19 passes for 144 yards and three TDs including 34 and 17 yard strikes to Jamison Lalk.
ADAM HAD’EM: Boyer Valley’s 52-32 win over Kingsley-Pierson featured the Bulldogs quarterback Adam Hadden, who passed for five TDs and 121 yards, while also rushing for 146 yards.
TOTALLY OFFENSIVE: Junior quarterback Alex Imming from Sioux City East continues to pile up big numbers as the Black Raiders moved to 3-0 with a 33-27 win over Des Moines Lincoln, Thursday. Imming logged his second game of 400 yards plus in total offense. He amassed 442 yards, rushing for 153 and scoring five TDs (1, 2, 1, 2 and 4 yards) while adding 289 yards passing. . .
JAMES WATCH: Sioux City East’s wide receiver Quenton James continued to add to his all-time receiving totals. In the Black Raiders’ 33-27 triumph over Des Moines Lincoln, he grabbed nine passes for 83 yards. That gives him 156 career receptions (2008-2010), moving him to closer to 4A leader and fifth overall – Keenan Davis of Cedar Rapids Washington who hauled in 169 passes, 2006-08. James’ current career reception yardage is 2,151 (14th overall) and third in Class 4A, behind Davis (2,393 – seventh overall) and Marshalltown’s Jarred Carlson (2,262, 2007-09)
AIR AFFAIRS: Coon Rapids-Bayard’s Michael Schwenck burned Grandview Park Baptist’s defense for 369 aerial yards and 7 touchdowns in a 66-25 win. He also added a rushing TD and finished with 405 yards total offense. Jacob Esdohr had 11 receptions for 190 yards and four scores. . . Collins-Maxwell-Baxter’s Cody Schmitz staged his own air-raid in a 48-28 win over Ogden. Schmitz hit on 18 of 25 with no interceptions for a whopping 385 yards and three TDs. He also rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns to give him 488 yards total offense. North Tama’s Brandon Boerm had four TD passes as he struck for 225 yards in a 35-0 triumph over H-L-V, Victor. . . Connor Golden threw for 270 yards and two TDs in leading Beckman, Dyersville past Center Point-Urbana, 40-0. . . Harlan’s Zach Osborn rolled up 211 air yards and fired four TD passes in the loss to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln. . .St. Albert, Council Bluffs J.D. Culjat fired three scoring strikes , two to Steve O’Neill, and wound up with 160 air yards in the Falcons 42-7 conquest of Glenwood. . . Ames’ Kyle Anderson completed 23 of 31 passes for 239 yards and found Bo Brammer and Nathan Cruise for 15 and 10 yard end zone strikes in the Littler Cyclones 31-21 triumph over Ottumwa. . . Dylan Villhauer of Clear Creek-Amana completed 25 of 46 passes for 309 yards and three TDs in a losing effort to Mid-Prairie, Wellman.
GARNER-HAYFIELD DUO: Garner-Hayfield’s Jace Engstler completed 13 of 16 passes for 140 yards and four touchdowns and added a 78 scoring dash to open the game in a 39-0 shutout of Belmond-Klemme. Josh Thompson was on the receiving end of 34 and 8 yard scoring tosses and add added a 30-yard interception return.
SACK TIME: Ballard’s defense slowed down A-D-M vaunted passing attack with a fierce rush. The Bombers has seven sacks and kept the Tigers’ junior aerial artist Gavin Glenn on edge. Glenn did compelted 13 of 19 for 208 yards and one TD, but the Bombers scored 20 unanswered points in the second half for a 30-14 win.
PICK FOUR: St. Mary’s, Remsen’s stifling defense held Harris-Lake Park to 15 total yards and high-jacked four aerials in a 44-0 win. Billy Steichen and Beau Pick each returned a theft for a score.
MERRY-TIME: Matt Merry sparkled in Mason City’s 48-6 victory over Des Moines Hoover. He returned two interceptions for 24 and 31 yard touchdowns, then was on the receiving end of 20 and 4 yard passes from Brandon Platts.
SHU E’NUF: Zac and Chris Schuleuger scored all five West Hancock touchdowns in a 35-6 handling of Lake Mills. Chris carried 26 times for 90 yards and scored on runs of 3,2, and 1, while Zac rolled up 175 ground yards on 13 carries, breaking loose on scoring jaunts of 69 and 45 yards.
WRECKING CREW: Central Lyon/George-Little Rock unleashed a one-man wrecking crew in the Lions 34-13 win over Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, Jordan Acevodo returned a punt 35 yards for a TD, had an 82-yard kickoff return for another TD, returned a fumble for a score and had seven tackles.
MORE YARD WORK: Madrid had three backs rush for 100 yards or more in a 63-14 smack down of PCM, Monroe. The Tigers put up 542 yards led by CJ Manthe with 185 yards and two TDs, Jeremy Johnson chipped in 156 yards and three end zone trips and Timon Bell added 111 yards and two scores plus a fumble return for a score. . . Josh Treybal rushed for 231 yards and two touchdowns in Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s 44-12 decision over Cherokee, Washington . . . Chariton’s Wucley Anderson rushed 44 times for 250 yards in a 27-21 loss to Albia . . . Starmont also had three backs top the 100-yard mark in a 51-13 dance past Edgewood-Colesburg. Vinnie Otdoefer scored four times (3, 26, 31 and 33 yards) and lead the ground troops with 161 yards, Brad Franzen and Ethan Moses each scored a TD and added 125 and 108 yards respectively. . . Grinnell’s Jordan Ferch gained 177 yards and was one of five Tigers to reach the end zone in a 34-14 decision over Des Moines Roosevelt. . . Mediapolis had Wil Jansen rush for 150 yards and TDs of 33, 49 and 4 yards plus kicking three PAT’s in the Bulldogs 33-6 victory over Pekin. . . Moravia’s Tyler McDanel posted 153 rushing yards and three TDs including a 79-yard punt return, as the Mohawks smoked Mormon Trail, 67-6
