NON-DISTRICT GAME TODAY: North Cedar, Stanwood (2-0) plays Lester Prairie, MN today at Wartburg College in Waverly at 1 p.m. This is a “replacement” game that was granted when North Cedar was open the week they were to have played Van Buren, Keosauqua. (Note: the schools who were scheduled with Van Buren do not receive a forfeit since Van Buren dropped their varsity program before the start of the competition season.

WINNING STREAKS GROW: Iowa City, City High and St. Albert, Council Bluffs chalked up their 17th straight wins and Armstrong-Ringsted upped its current win streak to 12 games, for the longest current victory strings in the state. Iowa City, City High defeated Iowa City West, 41-21; St. Albert dropped Clarinda Academy, 48-0, and Armstrong-Ringsted won a 43-8 outing with C-W-L, Corwith. Other regular season and conference win streaks that increased last night included Clear Lake (26a), North Tama, Traer (25), Emmetsburg (22), Iowa City, City High (22) and West Branch (20) continued strings of regular season triumphs. Meanwhile Harlan Community’s 35-0 district triumph over Glenwood was the Cyclones 50th straight. West Lyon moved its district streak to 33 games with a 43-0 blanking of Alta/Aurelia. St. Albert, Council Bluffs (27), Bishop Heelan, Sioux City (27), Stanton (24) and Solon (23) also extended regular season consecutive win chains.
DOUBLE DIGIT LOSING SKIDS END: Riceville doused a 12-game losing skid with a 53-0 victory over CAL, Latimer.
PERFECT SQUARED: Only three unbeaten teams have yet to give up a point. By class they are:
4-A: Bettendorf (2-0) 103-0 (resumes game with Assumption tonight)
1-A: North Cedar, Stanwood (2-0) 74-0 (pending today’s game)
A: North Tama, Traer (3-0), 140-0 – the Redhawks have shutout 28 of their last 41 foes.
87 TEAMS WITHOUT A LOSS: After last night 87 of the 355 teams have unblemished records but that number will dwindle with several head-to-head games today with teams that have yet to lose. You can pick out the unbeaten teams by looking at the overall w-l of teams in the playoff standings.

The IHSAA score list is generated from school calls and E-mails to the IHSAA the night of the game and media reports. It is the basis for the IHSAA Official Play-off Standings and therefore critical to playoff determination. Our score list is posted before 6:15 a.m. each Saturday and the playoff standings in each conference/district are usually updated before 8:45 a.m.

AIR MALE: Coon Rapids-Bayard’s Michael Schwenck continues to climb the career ladder in Iowa prep passing circles. Last night he completed 30 of 50 passes for 447 yards (third best all-time) and 7 TDs in a 46-7 triumph over Ar-We-Va, Westside. It marked the second straight week he had fired 7 TD strikes and ups his season total to 17 to go with 1,089 yards in three contests. Those numbers move him into fourth place in career TD aerials in 8-player with 77, trailing Drew Whigham of Stanton (79, 2003-05) Chris Palmquist, Stanton (89, 2006-08) and Johnny Schwaller of Coon Rapids-Bayard (94, 2005-08). His career yardage total is now 4,325 yards, fifth best on the Iowa charts. Jacob Esdohr grabbed 9 passes for 242 yards and four TDS. Esdohr’s yards rank fifth among all-time single game 8-player efforts.
SLINGS FOR 7 ALSO: Grady Gallagher of Woodbury Central, Moville passed for 229 yards and seven TDs in an 85-12 rout of Southeast Webster-Grand. The seven scoring passes shares second with six others on the all-timer Iowa 11-player list. James Wright had four TD grabs in the game.
FREIGHT TRAIN RUSHING: Carlisle unleashed Nate Wilmes for 144 yards and four TDs and Conner Uhlman for 121 ground yards as the Wildcats rushed for 410 yards in a 68-0 win over Saydel. . . Columbus Catholic, Waterloo was ignited by Lamar Sayles 290 yards rushing with TD runs of 71, 68, 20 and 17 yards in a 35-32 edging of Forest City. . . Conner O’Brien broke loose for scoring runs of 76, 83 and 74 yards to boost his 275 yard effort as Wapsie Valley blanked Bellevue, 30-0. . . Remsen-Union racked up 497 rushing yards led by Kraig Alesch’s 176 and two TDs in a 47-23 victory over Newell-Fonda . . . Led by Josh Intel’s 175 yards on eight carries, Lawton-Bronson out-rushed Westwood, Sloan, 397-14 in a 58-0 win. . . Five North Fayette ball carries totaled 393 ground yards in a 34-6 victory over Beckman, Dyersville.
PAY DIRT GALLOPS: Ronald Thompson furnished unbeaten Iowa City High with a huge lift as the Little Hawks won the Battle of Boot, 41-21 over city-rival Iowa City West. Thompson rushed for 284 yards and five TDs. . . Austin Ebertowski’s 173 bruising yards and five TDs powered undefeated Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln to a 62-22 triumph over Des Moines North. . .Kee Vonn Bernstine rushed for 179 yards and scored three TDs and Des Moines Lincoln defeated Indianola, 46-27. . . New Hampton’s Lee Schuchardt scored three times and had 209 ground yards in a 39-7 pasting of Denver. . . Alex Osborne of Bondurant-Farrar struck for 190 yards and two late touchdowns to bring his team back from a 13-point deficit in a 34-25 win over Pella Christian. . . Kuemper Catholic got 225 rushing yard including scoring sprints of 56 and 45 yards in a 28-0 shut out of East Sac County . . . Wes Burnside pounded out 167 rushing yards and four TD trips as Union, La Porte City hung a 49-7 loss on Center
Point-Urbana . . . North Tama’s Brendon Boerm scored on runs of 44 and 3 yards and returned a punt 67 yards for another score as the Redhawks blanked East Buchanan, 41-0. . . Rockford’s Scott Paulus continued to star for Rockford, who throttled Valley Community, Elgin, 44-6. Paulus rushed for 191 yards, scored two touchdowns and ran for three two-point conversions.
RE-RUN ON JAMES WATCH: Sioux City East was idle this week. That allows us to take time to pass along wide receiver Quenton James’ career receiving totals. He has 154 receptions for 2,186 yards moving him closer to state Class 4-A lead. He trails Keenan Davis of Cedar Rapids Washington who hauled in 169 passes, 2006-08. Now third in 4A receiving yardage, James trails Davis (2,393 – seventh overall) and Marshalltown’s Jarred Carlson (2,262, 2007-09). AIRING IT OUT: Storm Lake’s Michael McCabe was 17 of 27 through the air for 319 yards and three scores in a 23-21 set back to Le Mars . . . Although his team lost to Iowa City High, 41-21 Iowa City West’s Charles Rogers completed 18 of 33 passes for 319 yards and three scores. . . Clear Creek-Amana’s Dillon Villhauer cranked out 295 aerial yards and five touchdowns in a 41-26 triumph over South Tama County. Josh Rohret caught nine balls for 152 yards and a pair of scores. Zach Manders also had a pair of receiving TDs for the winners. . . A-D-M, Adel’s Gavin Glenn passed for 246 yards, completing 20 of 33 for a TD and also rushed for a score in the Tigers’ 34-13 win over Knoxville. . . Jace Engstler continued to put up big aerial numbers for Garner-Hayfield, going over the 200-yard air mark for the third straight week. His 225 passing yards for two touchdowns (both to Josh Thompson) field a 36-22 win over Lake Mills. . . Ames’ Kyle Anderson fired TDs passes of 45, 46 and 32 ya
rds to Adam Maher en rout to 199 aerial yards in a 45-2 waltz past Des Moines East. . . Parker Bolt of Gladbrook-Reinbeck passed for 233 yards and four scores as the Rebels beat Ogden, 35-7. . . Forest City’s Kyle Rosacker blazed the airways for 344 yards and three TDs in a 35-32 loss to Columbus Catholic, Waterloo. . . Connor Bravard fired two TDs and rolled up 210 aerial yards as Dowling Catholic sailed past Urbandale, 52-0. . .
IN THE CARDS: Treynor’s Jake Allen helped the Cardinals deal Underwood a 27-19 loss in a Southwest Iowa showdown. He rolled up 224 yards rushing on 18 carries scoring on runs of 6, 80 and 76 yards, while picking off two Eagle passes and making a late game saving tackle to thwart a score.
STIFLING: Harlan Community bounced back from last week’s loss by holding Glenwood to 48 yards total offense in a 35-0 win. Dylan Barrett rushed for 1616 yards and three TDs while Zach Osborn passed for 186 yards and a score.
OFFENSIVE NIGHT: Collins-Maxwell-Baxter amassed 513 yards of offense as Cody Schmitz clicked on 12 of 16 aerials for 146 yards; Logan Gibbs churning for 148 yards and Andrew Broderick adding two TDs and 122 rush yards. Josh Zieser caught three TD passes and also score on a two yard run.
GREAT NIGHT: Colo-NESCO’s Brandon Eley had a huge game in a 42-0 whitewashing of Grundy Center. He scored four rushing TDs carrying 12 times for 128 yards; clicked on 7 of 8 passes for 129 yards and one TD and was perfect on six PAT placements to account for 35 of his team’s 42 points. Blake Jobe snagged five passes for 105 yards. . . Ankeny Christian Academy’s Tim Olejniczak threw six scoring aerials – three to Isaac Lopez, then darted for three rushing scores and returned a fumble for another six-pointer in a 72-8 humbling of Lamoni.
VARIETY PACK: Madrid rushed for 326 yards in a 60-19 drubbing of Corning, but it as Nick Efkamp’s variety end zone pack that caused a stir. He returned a punt 87 yards for a score, sprinted to the end zone from 40 yards away, and caught a 38-yard scoring pass.
BIG RETURNS: Remington Lanenga returned a fumble 73 yards for a score and took an interception to the end zone from 34 yards out as Charles City stopped Crestwood, Cresco, 31-13.
RUN & KICK: Newman Catholic, Mason City got a solid team effort in a 48-7 pasting of GMG, Garwin. Five players scored. Ben Buffington tallied on runs of 19 and 35 and Jacob Linahon cruised in from 1 and 64 yards away. Dillon Stradt added a 33-yard paydirt dash and also kicked six PATs.
BEAT THE CLOCK: Norwalk’s Zach Crain’s two yard plunge with 13 seconds remaining lifted Norwalk to a 21-14 win over Perry. Crain also scored from 23 yards out and lead all rushers with 192 yards in 23 totes. . . Dallas Center-Grimes also got a late win as Beau Berkley’s 28-yard field goal with 1:15 remaining edged Newton 17-14.
TAYLOR CAN HACK-IT: Glidden-Ralston’s Taylor Hackett had a huge night in a 58-14 win over Woodbine. He scored six times – three times on runs of 76, 78 and 5 yards. He also returned a punt 57 yards for a score and caught 22 and 25 yard scoring passes from Wade Hoyle, who scored twice on one yard runs.
