Post Week 5 Rankings Update

After having posted our Week 5 Power Rankings it’s time to break down the biggest winners and losers. With 4 weeks left of football, we can already see playoff seeds forming.

Week 5 Power Rankings

4A
Overall 4A seems to have gone as expected with the computer correctly predicting all 15 top games. What’s interesting however is playoff outlook in conference 6 as Waukee is currently leading with a 3-2 record (non-conference) and Indianola is in second with an undefeated record (non-conference). When it comes to playoff outlook the leaders of each conference are as follows; (C1) WDM Dowling, (C2) Ankeny Centennial, (C3) Cedar Falls, (C4) Iowa City West, (C5) Bettendorf, (C6) Waukee, (C7) WDM Valley.

3A
In class 3A Cedar Rapids Xavier continues to dominate the competition. They beat Maquoketa 41-0 pushing them to a 5-0 record overall. The Dome is most likely in there future. In other news, Marion has beaten Center Point-Urbana in an upset that pushes them to 2-3 and 15th overall. Interestingly enough Center Point-Urbana is still ranked higher at 13 even after the loss.

2A
Class 2A has 4 remaining undefeated teams (1) Prairie City-Monroe, (4) Spirit Lake, (8) Greene County, and (11) Algona. PCM is strong but has only played 1 top 10 contenders in there last 5 games. Next week won’t be a game like that either as they play Saydel with a winning spread of 82.10 points. What’s even more interesting about all these undefeated teams is we fully expect all 4 to be undefeated next week maybe even till the end of the season. Time will tell.

1A
The big matchup in 1A for week 5 was West Branch at Bellevue. Bellevue won 28-20 taking West Branch’s undefeated record and solidify themselves as the team to beat in 1A. From the looks of it, Bellevue and Van Meter will most likely meet at the Dome as both teams have easy wins to the playoffs. Now for 1A underdogs, we see Pella Christian making some big moves in the next 4 weeks. They are the only team in the 1A top 10 with 2 loses but that was to the #1 and #2 teams. Expect big things from them in coming weeks.
